As usual, I'm obsessed with how much space the TurboGrafx-16 gets in these catalogs. This time around it gets one corner of one page. The Sony Data Discman page is pretty fascinating too. The other sections aren't all that different from the other 1992 catalogs here. I'll try to note things that are unique or interesting in this one.
Cover
The base color for this background appears to be #05a5ad. It doesn't have an official name but is an extremely 90s color.
Contents
I have to admit that Turbo Express deal is not very good. I'm not sure there is a free HuCard game that makes the $300 price acceptable.
Page 3 - Sega Genesis
Free puck with purchase of Mario Lemiuex Hockey, you can't make that up.
Page 4 - Sega Genesis
I think Kid Chameleon had to be sponsored, at least a little.
Page 5 - Sega Genesis
That's right, Exile was on Sega Genesis too. It must not have been in stores very long.
Page 6 - Sega Genesis
I would wear those gloves in public, not ashamed.
Page 7 - Super Nintendo
I find that people often link to these catalogs to discuss what console bundles used to be available. In the spring of 1992 the Super Nintendo was $180 and included Super Mario World & two controllers. Not bad at all.
Someone will link to this page to discuss Final Fantasy II being $70.
Page 10 - Super Nintendo
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts is oddly priced at $59.49.
Page 11 - NES
If I'm surprised by anything in this catalog it's the NES getting 5 pages after the first Sega Genesis vs Super Nintendo holiday season.
Page 12 - NES
Of course still trying to get almost $30 for Kung-Fu is also surprising. It was quite good for 1987 but this is 5 years later.
Page 13 - NES
Someone may also have opinions on Dragon Warrior III being $60. Not me, it's not like there were a ton of other games in that genre in the US at the time.
Page 14 - NES
I think that Action Replay is new to me, the box for sure.
Page 15 - NES
Meanwhile Ninja Gaiden II is $20 which seems like a good deal.
Page 16 - Game Boy
I've said this in every other catalog scan of the time... the $20 Game Boy games are outstanding bargains.
Page 17 - Game Boy
I wish Nintendo would make a portable charger that looked exactly like their old Game Boy battery.
Page 18 - Game Boy
Game Boy accessories are often wild to look at.
Page 19 - Game Gear
I never realized how much the box art for Ninja Gaiden on Game Gear had going on.
Page 20 - Game Gear (also Lynx)
The poor Lynx has to share the bottom of a Game Gear page.
Page 21 - Game Gear
I don't think there's anything new on this page. I always like seeing the Master Gear Converter make an appearance.
Page 22 - PC Entertainment
I should stop searching for names that appear in these catalogs, they are often attached to depressing stories.
Page 23 - PC Entertainment
I feel like Microsoft would not let an unlicensed Flight Simulator upgrade get out today.
Page 24 - PC Entertainment
Lottery trackers are not new in this catalog but I again would like to call out what an incredible scam they are.
Page 25 - PC Entertainment
In Planet's Edge the entire planet earth has disappeared. It's always the last place you look.
Page 26 - PC Budget
Getting to a block of pages that I assume no one is nostalgic about.
Page 27 - PC Education
These are in every other 1992 catalog (probably).
Page 28 - PC Education
Nothing new or interesting here, standard fare for 1992 catalogs.
Page 29 - PC Education/Productivity
I tried to figure out what happened to the makers of SuperStor but no luck.
Page 30 - PC Productivity
This is also a pretty standard selection for 1992.
Page 31 - PC Productivity
Hmm, wealth building advice from someone who settled many fraud lawsuits.
Page 32 - PC Productivity
I wonder what they blacked-out on the Norton Utilities box?
Page 33 - PC Productivity
Ah, tax season.
Page 34 - Windows Software
Free $50 savings bond with PFS: Window Works... weird. With the $100 price tag it's about 35 years to break even.
Page 35 - PC Joysticks & Mice
The makers of the Pistol Stick thought "where should we add buttons?" and answered "yes".
Page 36 - PC Accessories
I miss 1990s PC speaker designs.
Page 37 - CD-ROM
The prices on early CD software are absurd. Like $90 for a collection of 5 talking fairy tales (your kid will get bored after one).
Page 38 - CD-ROM
I forgot there was a $90 version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? at one point.
I guess I'm a morbid person. Whenever I see the cover of an old wrestling game I immediately count the dead:alive ratio. As of the last time I looked at this page it's 4:3.
Page 41 - Savings
Dang, I missed out on the 1 minute encyclopedia of Nintendo for $4. That's exactly the kind of thing I collect for reasons I don't understand.
